On the 2015 model-year vehicles equipped with 4G, GM is offering the servicefree for three months or 3 gigabytes of use.

Abram said the technology, which GM originally announced in February 2013, will be a great benefit for families and business owners who operate out of their vehicles, but all customers should benefit from the high-speed connection.

With OnStars 4G LTE connection, the vehicle acts as a mobile hub, giving customers easier access to apps and services that require a high speed cellular or data connection.

. You can change the location at any time.

Following the free trial period, plans start at $5 a month for OnStar subscribers and $10 a month for non-subscribers for 200 megabytes. The current plans top out at $50 a month for 5 gigabytes of data use. A 4G LTE-equipped GM vehicle also can be added to an existing AT&T Mobile Share Plan for $10 a month.

This is really changing the paradigm of what a connected vehicle really is … and this is just the start, he said.

GM also plans to use the system to help analyze vehicle fleets and enhance customers monthly diagnostic reports that are currently available throughOnStar, which the 4G system operates with. In the future, the high-speed data network could be used to send over-the-air updates to the vehicle or other service messages.
