Meet the brand new product for developers: Application Cloud

Problem finding a place? Or being disturbed or being alone while travelling on train? SBB Chill is the perfect solution. The mobile app helps you find the right seat.

The team behind the new product counts 25 passionate developers, representing more than ten programming languages. In its development work, the team has been using the open source PaaS environment from Cloud Foundry since 2013. Swisscom has a seat on the Board of Directors of the Cloud Foundry Foundation. Thanks to wide support from major manufacturers, Cloud Foundry has developed into a de facto standard for modern Cloud-based applications. Today, Swisscom already runs more than 100000 applications in the Swisscom Cloud.

We are very happy to announce at this place the winners of the Swisscom IoT-Hackathon.

So what are the typical use cases where such a network would be useful? There are the obvious ones like smart water and gas meters, pet and people trackers. But what about pillbox, water Hydrant, parking spot, mailbox, chair or even an umbrella? With the Low Power Network we could connect such simple things and many more

The umbrella that you can check out based on location. Additionally it will tell you when it rains outside. If you forget to bring it back it orders automatically someone to pick up the umbrella.

We invite you take advantage of this unique opportunity and join Switzerlands first Internet of Things Hackathon and get acquainted with the technology that is set to play an essential role in the digital IoT landscape of the future.

You will be free to follow any idea you come up with. As an inspiration there will be thematic challenges provided by Swisscom and selected partners.  You can come as a team, join a team at the event or create your own team  on site.

The do-it-yourself Swisscom Cloud service gives you instant and full access to the mature and comprehensive features and all the necessary tools and resources. Additionally, Swisscom customers enjoy professional maintenance and support and ongoing upgrades to new features and capabilities. No upfront investment is required and engineers can focus on building apps, not infrastructure.

There are various advantages of the Swisscom Interact-Platform:

Beacons are small, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) based, electronic transmitters, which send out weak signals continuously and in periodic intervals. Smartphones or other mobile devices receive these signals and use it to execute defined actions, e.g. show messages on a display.

In short: Swisscom Application Cloud is the platform you need to be innovative and productive.

Digitalization is playing an ever greater role in our everyday lives. To enable devices to communicate more efficiently with each other in future, Swisscom is testing a network for the Internet of Things. This low-power network (LPN) is the first of its kind in Switzerland and connects devices that exchange only small amounts of data with each other and require only a minimal supply of power. Widely supported by Research Analysts, it is believed that LPN is highly complementary to traditional cellular networks such as 2G, 3G and 4G.

Central administration of the beacon infrastructure

The Low Power Network (LPN) offers features such as;

Every team will have access to a Low Power Network Developer Kit, an Application Enablement Platform and an Application Cloud account. The location will be equipped with beacon technology and the teams will have access to the mobile application SDK.
